A teaching theater and recital hall, Mago Hunt features a theater with flexible seating and staging arrangements, a recital hall to accommodate various musical ensembles, a scene shop, costume shop, practice rooms, an exhibit and display area in the lobby, and offices.

Fun Facts

  • Before Mago Hunt Center was built, three wooden structures occupied this space and where Franz Hall is today.  In 1969, a 5-alarm fire destroyed those three buildings, temporarily displacing the music and theater programs until Mago Hunt was built.
  • Bob Hope entertained students in front of Mago Hunt in 1975.
  • Will Geer (Grandpa Walton) performed on Mago Hunt’s stage in the production “The Oldest Living Graduate”, April 1977.
  • More recently: UP alumnus and Big Bang Theory featured cast member, Kunal Nayyar, practiced his craft on the Mago Hunt stage.
  • Opera on the Bluff (formerly Mocks Crest Productions) was established in 1990 to give students an opportunity to be in a fully staged production with costumes and orchestra.   Performances are held each summer in the month of June.
